Parish Organizations

St. James has a number of Parish organizations that exist to organize, carry out and enhance our ministry within and without the Parish.

THE WARDENS AND INCUMBENT

Sometimes referred to as ‘the corporation’ the Wardens, Deputy Wardens and Incumbent meet on a monthly basis to review the state of health of the Parish and plan for the future. Their various responsibilities which include finances and the physical plant can be found in the Canons of the Diocese of Toronto which you can access through our links page.

THE ADVISORY BOARD

The Advisory Board, meeting monthly, exists pursuant to the Canons of the Diocese and consists of the Wardens, Incumbent and others elected or appointed at the Annual Vestry Meeting in January of each year. The Board undertakes responsibilities pursuant to the request of the Incumbent and or Wardens, receives reports from various Parochial organizations and provides advice to the Incumbent and Wardens concerning issues facing the Parish.

THE ALTAR GUILD

The Altar Guild is essentially responsible for taking care of the Sanctuary of the Church and ensuring that appropriate parts of the Sanctuary are set for the celebration of the various liturgies and sacraments. A rotating schedule exists in which teams of two or three are responsible for one week at a time.

THE CHOIRS

We have two choirs – Senior and Junior – that practice on Thursday nights. They greatly enrich the worship we offer to God and there is always room for new members. Please contact our Organist and Choir Director, Nelson Lohnes, or the Parish office if you are interested in exploring this form of ministry.

THE MEN’S FELLOWSHIP

This informal group meets in the Quiet Room from 9:15 AM on Tuesday mornings. It is a time of fellowship over coffee and snacks with no pre-planned agenda.

THE FRIENDSHIP GROUP

This women’s group meets on Wednesdays over lunch following the social hour after the 10:00 AM Eucharist. They undertake projects from time to time as forms of outreach.  All are welcome. Please call the office for further information.

THE YOUTH GROUP

Under the leadership of June Roper this group of students Grades 6 and up meet variously on Friday nights and Sundays during the 10:00 AM service coming together for fun and fellowship, for greater understanding of our faith and spiritual growth. The Youth Retreat last year was held at a horse riding ranch.
